James M. Sullivan, AIF® is a Vice President and Financial Advisor with Essex Financial Services, Inc. James has over 15 years of experience in financial services, specializing in comprehensive retirement planning and investment advice. James is also responsible for the Retirement Plan Services Department at EFS which provides Advisory services to over 200 employer sponsored retirement plans. Prior to joining Essex Financial Services, Inc in 2009, James spent 7 years at Fidelity Investments specializing in various defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans. James is a graduate of Assumption College in Worcester, MA with a BA in Accounting. James holds his FINRA Series 7, 66, 9 and 10 licenses as well as his State of CT Life and Health Insurance license. James earned the AIF® Designation from the Center for Fiduciary Studies. The AIF Designation certifies he has specialized knowledge of fiduciary standards of care and their application to the investment management process. James has been recognized as a 2015 PLANADVISER Top 100 Retirement Plan Adviser. He was one of only three Advisors in Connecticut to receive this recognition.
James and his wife, Emily, are proud parents to two girls, Allie and Kiley. Emily is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). The Sullivans live in West Hartford, CT and are active in various causes supporting Autism Spectrum Disorders awareness and education. James’s family has worked extensively to raise awareness and funding for pediatric cancer research that focuses on finding a cure and more effective treatment for Rhabdomyosarcoma.
